Start by protecting what cannot leave. Separate documents, valuables, medication, keys, keepsakes, and undecided items before you build the removal scope.

Start with papers and keys

Set aside wills, deeds, tax records, insurance papers, titles, account information, safe-deposit details, keys, and combinations. Keep anything uncertain with the review group, not in a removal zone.

Separate personal history

Photographs, letters, military records, recipe books, awards, and labeled family items can be easy to overlook when they sit inside ordinary boxes. Give these items their own protected area.

Create an undecided zone

Not every decision needs to happen immediately. Choose one room or clearly marked section for items that need another person’s answer. Keep the removal crew out of that area.

Confirm authority before pickup

The person arranging service should know who can authorize removal from the property. If the estate or ownership process is unresolved, finish that conversation before scheduling the hauling work.
